Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I REGISTER?

You may register online here. You may also download the registration form and return it (with the optional donation enclosed) to the Shelby Township Supervisor’s Office at 52700 Van Dyke Ave.

Registration begins on September 19, 2019. Online registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on November 2, 2019. After online registration has closed, you may still register in-person on the day of the event up until 9:45 a.m. at the check-in table.

Packet pick-up is on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Hanson’s Running Shop (8409 Hall Road, Utica, MI 48317) between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you do not pick up your packet on November 2, it will be available to you the day of the race at the check-in table.

 

HOW CAN MY COMPANY BECOME A SPONSOR?

We have various levels of sponsorship packages available. For more information on how your company can be a supporter of the race and Shelby Township Veterans Memorial, click here. For more information, please email info@shelbytwp.org or call the Supervisor’s Office at 586-731–5154.

 

HOW CAN I BECOME A VOLUNTEER?

We are looking for volunteers for the Veterans Memorial Run at this time. You can easily sign up to volunteer online here, or call us directly to find out more information at 586-731–5154.

 

WHAT TIME DOES THE RACE BEGIN?

8 AM – Registration & check-in

10 AM – Race start

11 AM – Award ceremony

11:30 AM – Raffle

 

WHEN AND WHERE DO I PICK UP MY RACE PACKET?

Packet pick-up is on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Hanson’s Running Shop (8409 Hall Road, Utica, MI 48317) between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you do not pick up your packet on November 2, it will be available to you the day of the race at the check-in table.

 

WILL I RECEIVE A 5K T-SHIRT?

Yes, runners registered before September 25, 2019 are guaranteed a shirt the day of the event with their registration. Event organizers will do there best to obtain shirts for all runners registered after this date.

 

HOW DO I SPONSOR A TRIBUTE FLAG FOR THE FINISH LINE?

You may sponsor a flag with the name and branch of service of a veteran for a donation of $5. These flags will line the finish line for the event. You may purchase a flag with your online registration, paper registration or in-person at the event. You do not need to be a registered runner/walker to purchase a dedicated flag.

 

WILL AWARDS BE GIVEN OUT?

Yes, awards will be given out for overall male, male master, male grand master, overall female, female master, and female grand master. Medals will be given to all who participate in the “Running with Heroes” Veterans Memorial Run.

 

HOW LONG IS THE RACE?

This is a 3.2 mile run/walk around the Shelby Township Veterans Memorial and Municipal Campus.

 

IS THERE A COURSE MAP AVAILABLE?

A map of the course can be found here. For any questions, please call the Supervisor’s Office at 586-731–5154.

 

WHERE DO I PARK THE DAY OF THE RACE?

There is limited parking available at the Shelby Township Municipal Campus (52700 Van Dyke Ave.). The 24 Mile and north Van Dyke Ave. entrances will be closed the day of the event. All participants should enter through the south Van Dyke Ave. entrance the day of the event.

 

IS THE RACE CHIP-TIMED?

Yes, although this is a walk/run, it is still chip-timed.

 

ARE WALKERS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE?

Yes, we encourage walkers to participate in the race. The race does not have a max finish time.

ARE WHEELCHAIRS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE?
Yes, our course is entirely handicap accessible. We welcome and encourage all to join in the event.

 

ARE STROLLERS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE?

Yes, this is a family-friendly event. You are welcome to walk or run with a stroller. Strollers must start after the runners and please be mindful of other participants and the terrain.

 

ARE PETS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE?

Yes, well-trained dogs are allowed on a leash, no longer than 6 feet. Pets must be under control and leashed at all times. As always, please clean up after your pet.

 

WILL THERE BE SNACKS AND REFRESHMENTS?

Yes, there will be fruit and light snacks after the race. Water will also be provided before and after the race.

 

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

The event is rain or shine. Please be mindful of the weather when preparing for the race and adjust your apparel accordingly. Please plan to stay hydrated and potentially prepare for colder weather.
