When Are Taxes Due?
Summer taxes become due on July 1 and are payable without penalty until September 15. After September 15, a 1% late fee is assessed for September. An additional 1% is assessed on the first of each month, thereafter, through February of the following year. Please send any late Summer tax payments directly to the Treasurer’s Office, 52700 Van Dyke Ave., Shelby Twp., MI 48316.
Winter taxes become due on December 1 and are payable without penalty until March 2. On March 3, all unpaid taxes, Summer and Winter, real and personal, are forwarded as ‘delinquent’ to the Macomb County Treasurer for payment, with additional penalties assessed by the Macomb County Treasurer. If tax due dates fall on a weekend or a legal holiday, the due date will be the immediately succeeding business date, per MCL 211.44a(6) for Summer taxes and MCL 211.78a(2) for Winter taxes.
Where Can Taxes be Paid?
Tax payments can be made at the Treasurer’s Office in the Municipal Building located at 52700 Van Dyke, Shelby Township, MI 48316. Taxes that are not past due can also be paid at Fifth Third Bank branches in Shelby Township. Please bring the entire tax bill when paying in person. For after-hours payments, drop boxes are available at the front (North) entrance of the Municipal Building and a drive-up box in the median along the exit to 24 Mile Road.
How Can Changes Be Made to the Property Tax Information?
The Treasurer’s Office can only make changes to mortgage/escrow company information, which must be requested in writing. All other changes should be requested through the Assessor's Office.
Does a Mortgage/Escrow Company Pay Your Taxes?
It is important to make sure the Treasurer’s Office has the correct mortgage/escrow company name and address if your mortgage company pays your taxes. If you have recently refinanced your home with a different mortgage company, the Treasurer’s Office may not have that change.
Can Taxes Be Paid With a Credit Card?
Property taxes may be paid online with a credit/debit card or by E-Check (ACH). Access the Tax Online Payment Service.
The Treasurer’s Office also accepts credit and debit cards for payment of property taxes in person.
Please note: This service is provided by a third-party company. This independent third-party company will charge the taxpayer a fee to use its service. However, unless or until taxes are paid by way of authorization from the credit card company, those taxes remain the taxpayer’s liability.
