A homeowner's association (HOA) is an organization in a subdivision, planned community, or condominium building that makes and enforces rules for the properties and residents. Those who purchase property within an HOA's jurisdiction automatically become members and are required to pay dues, known as HOA fees. Some associations may be restrictive about what members can do with their properties.

Township meetings rooms are available, free of charge, to local associations in the
Shelby Township Hall. Please call the Clerk's Office at 586-731-5102 to check availability.

In developments with private roads, the association is responsible for road repairs.

The Supervisor's Office and the township engineer serve as the liaison between the township and the Macomb County Department of Roads. All surface roads within Shelby Township are under the jurisdiction of the MCDR. The township does not have jurisdiction to repair, expand or maintain any roads within its borders.
