Trash - Placed at the curb 5:30 p.m. or later the day before pick up. Containers should be removed from curbside by 8 p.m. the day of pick up. For large items remember to call Priority Waste ahead of time for a special pick up.

Sidewalk - Keep the sidewalks clear from obstructions. All low hanging branches, shrubs or bushes that protrude into and over the sidewalk need to be trimmed back behind the edge of the sidewalk and high enough for a bicyclist to pass under. A sidewalk Inspection will take place this year to check for sidewalk defects.

Yard - Keep the grass cut at a height of no greater than six (6) inches. On vacant property, grass cannot exceed ten (10) inches. Owner may be subject to a citation and fine if not kept up to code.

Sales - No permit required for garage, yard, estate or similar type sales. Limit is two (2) per year (12 month period). Sale cannot exceed 4 days.

The township’s Disorderly Person Ordinance covers disturbing or disruptive noise. Suppose a township resident feels that someone is violating Section 20 of the township’s Disorderly Person Ordinance, as outlined below. In that case, they can file a complaint with the Shelby Township Police Department by calling the non-emergency number 586-731-2121 ext. 3.

Division 2. - Disorderly Conduct
Sec. 46-361. - Definitions.
Disorderly person means any of the following:
20) Any person who shall make or cause the emanation of noise which is disturbing or disruptive to the peaceful enjoyment of any person having any interest as a tenant, occupant or owner in adjacent or nearby property and who refuses to abate such noise upon the verbal request of a police officer.

The following apply to all Residential Districts:

• Motor vehicles parked and/or stored outside of a building must be in operating condition and currently licensed.
• One commercial vehicle is allowed to be parked on residential property as long as it does not exceed 8,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).

It has become increasingly popular to place signs at intersections and along roadways as a means of advertising homes for sale, businesses available, insurance rates, etc. However, the placement of signs in the right-of-way area is a violation of the Shelby Township Litter Ordinance. The ordinance allows for the removal of signs as litter as well as prosecution in District Court.
