MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Shelby Gardeners Club shall be:

  • To promote interest and knowledge for our members and the community in gardening, flower arrangement and ecology.
  • To aid in the protection of native plants, trees, and wildlife.
  • To encourage civic planting, beautification and friendship as a means of setting a positive example in our community.
  • We shall support recycling projects and give recognition to businesses and local residents who also share these goals.

MEETINGS

The Shelby Gardeners Club meets the 2nd Thursday of the month, usually at the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center (4101 River Bends Drive, off Ryan Road, south of 22 Mile Road).  A general business meeting begins at 10:00 am and usually at 1:00 pm a guest speaker will address the group on a variety of topics.  This part of the program is open to the public and anyone interested in the speaker is encouraged to join us.  The program for the month is typically listed in the local newspaper and on the website.  You may also phone the President for this information.

PROJECTS

The Garden Club’s most important ongoing project is Heritage Gardens which is located on the Municipal Grounds, east of the Municipal Building.  We purchase plants as well as plant and weed the gardens throughout the summer.  We also do other community projects such as making corsages for the Senior Center Birthday Party Luncheon, making gifts for residents of the Wilmar Nursing Home, help with the Annual Shelby Township Clean-up Day, and present speakers on many different topics for public enlightenment.
