Simple Recycling program offers recycling options

Beginning the first week of April, Simple Recycling will be transitioning from green bags to orange bags making the bags and items more distinguishable from the regular trash and recycling placed on the curb. Shelby residents can expect to receive an orange postcard and two (2) orange Simple Recycling bags in the mail the last week of March. During the transition, Simple Recycling will still pick up the green bags if they are left out and will leave additional orange Simple Recycling bags for future use.

If you need additional bags, call 866-835-5068, visit, or email

2016 Changes to the Electronics Recycling Program

Starting June 25, 2016 there are changes to Shelby Township's popular monthly electronics recycling program. After researching ways to save the monthly Shelby Township Electronics Recycling Program, members of the township’s Solid Waste and Recycling Committee and officials from GreenTech Recyclers found common ground to continue the long successful program.

Under the new agreement between the SWARC and GreenTech, the event will once again be open to everyone, irrespective of the community in which they live from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25 at Shelby Township Hall at 52700 Van Dyke Ave.

The new terms of the collection, which occurs the final Saturday of every month, have each car dropping off items paying a $5 fee with $1 of that fee going to the local charity staffing the collection. The fee also includes up to one Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors and televisions. Additional CRTs can be recycled for $10 per CRT.&nbspFor any questions, please contact us at 586-726-7272. Also check for updates.

For more information about electronics recycling in Michigan, you may contact the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality at 517-449-6153.

The SAFE, SECURE electronics recycling takes place at the Shelby Township Municipal Grounds (52700 Van Dyke - Municipal Grounds SOUTH entrance). Events are held the last Saturday of each month, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the exception of December.
