MISSION
To serve the citizens and the Board of Trustees in the areas of Solid Waste and Recycling in Shelby Township. 
MEETINGS
The committee meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Employees Lounge on the lower level of the Township Municipal Building, 52700 Van Dyke. Meetings are not held in the months of: June, July, August, November and December. 
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Encourage Recycling and Composting
Encourage Participation in Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Provide Solid Waste and Recycling information to the township 
ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PROGRAM

SUSTAINABLE SATURDAY PROGRAM

At its January 18, 2011 board meeting the Township Board of Trustees entered into a contract with Vintage Tech Recyclers, Inc. to start an Electronics Recycling Program in the township. This program is being offered at no charge. The drop-off location will be at the Shelby Township Municipal Grounds (52700 Van Dyke - southeast of the intersection of 24 Mile and Van Dyke).  For 2012 events will be held the last Saturday of each month, between 9:00am and 1:00pm, with the exception of December.  Watch Shelby Township's homepage for the next scheduled event day.

This program is open to residents, schools, churches, businesses, libraries and municipal offices.

So far we have had 2,133 vehicles drop off 332,902 pounds of electronics. For a breakdown by event date please see our stats sheet.

ENHANCED RECYCLING PROGRAM

Effective July 1, 2008 the Enhanced Recycling Program went into effect. It allows for the recycling of all plastics, colored glass, plastic bags, pots and pans, and much more. To get a new recycling bin, or an additional one, please contact the DPW Department. If your bin is full you can also use clear plastic bags for additional items.

TRASH & RECYCLING COLLECTION DELAYED
With Christmas Day and New Years Day falling on Sunday the trash & recycling collection will be delayed by one day the week of December 26, 2011 as well as the week of January 2nd, 2012.
 
CHRISTMAS TREES
The collection of live Christmas trees will take place the week of January 9-13, 2012. Please remove all decorations and plastic bags. If trees are larger than 6 feet, please cut in half, or if the trees are extremely tall, cut into thirds.
