Shelby Township Government
The Assessing Department deals with legal descriptions and property location maps of land. It improves buildings, administers and oversees a number of real property and personal property tax exemption programs, provides tax information, and serves as a source for real and personal property valuation issues and assessment administration.

The Building Department administers and enforces ordinance provisions pertaining to fences, sidewalks, tree and woodland preservation, and unsafe buildings and zoning. It deals with any building problems or concerns.
The Cable TV Department answers questions related to the Township’s Cable Franchise Agreements and helps resolve disputes customers have with their Cable TV provider. It deals with questions, comments, and concerns dealing with cable services.

The 41A District Court Department serves the public and protects rights, interprets and upholds the law, and provides fair, accessible, effective and responsive forums for the resolution of civil, criminal and traffic matters. It works to create a just, timely, equal and fair environment established on public trust and confidence.

Clerk Stanley Grot

The Clerk’s Office is the official keeper of the Township Records as well as overseeing the administration of elections and the keeping of voter registrations. This office deals with the Historical, Beautification, Sidewalk and Solid Waste and Recycling Committees. They also deal with the Fire and Police Pension and Retirement Board, and several other committees and commissions as well as the Building Authority.

The Department of Public Works is dedicated to maintaining a safe, potable water supply for domestic use and fire suppression. It deals with sewage and water questions, and may also answer questions regarding water bills and rates.

Director Allan McDonald
The Finance Department assists in budget monitoring. It oversees the Township’s fixed asset program and five-year financial model. It deals with the Blue Cross membership collection system, Capital Project Plan and coordinates with other township projects. If a citizen or company is calling because Shelby Twp. didn’t pay a bill, or if the township is writing a check or giving money to someone else, call Finance.

Fire Station #1
Chief Jim Swinkowski For Emergencies Call: 911
The Fire Station’s mission is to reduce deaths, injuries, and property loss from fire, hazardous material incidents, emergency medical situations, and other disaster/emergency by being proactive in providing excellent, state of the art, pace setting, life and property preservation and emergency services in a professional and cost effective manner. This Department can answer questions regarding station tours, Ambulance/Fire Reports, Public Education, or general information.

The Human Resource Department is responsible for the recruitment, selection and administration of the Township’s workforce. It deals with people who are applying for government office jobs in the Shelby Township offices.
Shelby Township Library

The library answers questions, comments, and concerns regarding hours of operation, information about library cards and borrowing policies, E-books, library computers, books, etc.
Enf. Officer Kurt Peterson
The Ordinance Department deals with the Police Department, Fire Department, Building Department, Department of Public Works, and the Recreation and Maintenance Department. It enforces ordinances such as Tree & Woodland Preservation, anti-Blight, Litter, Business Licenses, Sidewalk, Animal Control, Solid Waste, and several sections of the Zoning Ordinance.

The Parks and Recreation Department deals with questions regarding organized sports, leisure, cultural and educational programs, and outdoor recreational opportunities. Comments, questions, or concerns regarding events or the safety of events put on by Shelby Township is handled by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Director Glenn Wynn
The Planning Department supervises the long-range planning for the community and reviews all development proposals submitted to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. It prepares agendas, coordinates reviews with other departments, and deals with public notification requirements.

Shelby Township’s Police Department deals with keeping the Township a place where people are secure in their homes, businesses, and travels. The new department is located directly behind the Hope Chapel on the township grounds.

The Dispatch Department sends out vehicles and teams of people out to a variety of locations when emergency situations occur.
Supervisor Rick Stathakis
The Supervisor works cooperatively to solve problems, address public concerns, and overall works to build a stronger township.
The Treasurer is solely responsible for the receipt, deposit, control and disbursement of all receipts (taxes and all other revenues) of the Township on a daily basis. If citizens or businesses are writing checks to Shelby Township and trying to give the township money, call the Treasury Department.

Shelby Manor is located one block north of M-59, east of Schoenherr (behind the Goodyear tire repair shop) and is located near Lakeside Mall. This Department can answer questions regarding rental payments, occupancy requirements, minimum income requirements, etc. Any questions regarding the facilities can be transferred to this department.
