EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT...

1.  Passports:
Hours of acceptance - 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday when the Township is open.
       You must have with you:
  • Passport pictures (the Clerk's Office now takes passport pictures for $10 per person)
  • Certified birth certificate with a seal
  • Naturalization papers (if applicable)
  • Picture identification such as a driver's license
  • COMPLETED Application (Unsigned)  If you have not completed your application, please allow yourself ample time to do so, so that you will be completed by 3:30 p.m.
It takes about four to six (4-6) weeks to get your passport, unless you choose to "expedite" the process, in which case you may receive your  passport in two to three (2-3) weeks.  A passport costs $135.00 for an adult, and $105.00 for a child under 16 years old. The fee to "expedite" your passport is an additional $60.00 each. Your passport will expire in ten (10 ) years for an adult, and five (5) years for a child. If you wish to obtain a passport for a child, you may want to call our office as there are special rules for obtaining a passport for a minor.
2.  Trash:

Township curbside disposal service is supplied by Republic/Allied Waste and the company can be reached at 1-800-959-9067.  Extensive information about recycling and disposal services can be found at: www.shelbytwp.org/recycle
3.  Register to vote:
You may register to vote at the Clerk's Office or any Secretary of State Office, or by mail.  It is important to note that if you change your address on your driver's license you will be canceling your voter registration unless you change that also. The reverse is also true - if you change your voter registration you will receive a sticker in the mail to change your license.  Your voter registration MUST match your residence.  And, if you register to vote by mail you may not be eligible to vote by an absent voter ballot the first time you vote. Please contact the Clerk's Office for more information at 586-731-5102.
4.  Voting Locations:
The Township has 29 precincts. Once you register to vote, you will receive a voter's I.D. card stating the exact location for you.  If you are currently registered and cannot locate your voter I.D., call the Clerk's Office at 586-731-5102.  More information is also available at https://webapps.sos.state.mi.us/mivote/
