Our Mission
To enhance and enrich the quality of life and community livability for citizens of the Charter Township of Shelby by providing resources to support initiatives not normally funded through governmental sources.
What is the Shelby Community Foundation?
A tax exempt, non-profit, publicly supported philanthropy organization with a permanent collection of endowed funds for the long-term benefit of Shelby Township. The Shelby Community Foundation (SCF) was started in 1996 to enhance and enrich the quality of life in the Charter Township of Shelby.
Board of Directors
The Shelby Community Foundation Board of Directors is an independent body of volunteers. Representing the broad interests of the community. Directors serve without compensation, and adhere to a sense of community that overrides the interests of any particular individual or group.

ENDOWED FUNDS: Interest from endowed funds is available to support a broad range of charitable activities to address community needs. This charitable money will grow over time when wisely invested, and will continue to have an impact long after the original gift is made.
DESIGNATED FUNDS: The Shelby Community Foundation also collects designated funds for the common good, that are distributed according to the Donors intent. The Foundation currently is able to hold these funds in trust for the Community. Recipients our grants include:

Tax Benefits to Donors
The Shelby Community Foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation. All donations to the foundation are tax deductible and could qualify for a State of Michigan tax credit. The SCF has been certified by the Michigan Dept. of Treasury, which allows individuals and businesses to reduce their Michigan Income Tax or Single Business Tax (SBT) by a credit of 50% of the amount contributed to the Shelby Community Foundation endowment fund.
Maximum Michigan Income Tax Credit:
1. $100.00 Credit for individual taxpayer filing singly, based on a $200.00 gift.
2. $200.00 Credit for married couple filing jointly, based on a $400.00 gift
3. For a resident estate or trust, the lesser of 10% of the tax liability for the tax year before claiming any credit allowed by the Income Tax Act, or $5,000.00
4. For Single Business Tax payers, the lesser of 5% of the tax liability for the tax year before claiming any credits allowed by the SBT Act, or $5,000.00.
